Heath Mace

Hi, I am Heath, and I am a coach here at UVE. I started lifting for football my freshman year of high school and discovered powerlifting when I was 16. I have been competing since I was 19 in 2023. I have coached a handful of my friends over the past few years since getting involved in the sport. What influenced me to become involved in the sport was the absence of a goal. After high school ended, football and track were no longer an avenue I could create goals for, I began taking the squat, bench, and deadlift more seriously and became obsessed with learning more about the sport and how training works. Understanding that only going to the gym and doing the same monotonous sets and reps every session for years at a time is not what exercise is about is the message I want to relay to clients and people in general. Helping people set a goal and learning the proper methods to get there is what teaching and coaching is all about and that is what I hope to provide here at UVE.

A.A.S. in Health and Fitness Science from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College C/O 2024

ACE Certified Personal Trainer

Currently pursuing B.S. in Exercise Science at Appalachian State University

Has competed in 4 sanctioned powerlifting meets since 2023, has coached at local PA, USAPL and USPA competitions and coached at 2025 Powerlifting America Nationals.

I began lifting in order to hold my own in football when I started high school. I did not fall in love with it until quarantine in 2020 and then again when I began to compete in 2023. Being involved in the setting of powerlifting, especially in Watauga, and getting to know the people in the community and building groups based on trust and friendship has been the highlight of getting stronger for me.

Why did I start lifting?
